The Project has released a first beta for version 2.1 of its open source web browser for Mac OS X. According to Team Coordinator Samuel Sidler, this second preview release of 2.1 introduces several notable improvements and enhances support for web standards.
2.1, like Firefox 3.6, is based on version 1.9.2 of Mozilla's Gecko web rendering platform. Aimed at testers and early adopters, the first beta offers improved control over plug-ins and a new history backend; autocomplete in the location bar has also been completely "overhauled" and the ability to hide the status bar has been added. Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and reportany bugs that they find.
